Venice is absolutely beautiful! During the water taxi ride I was getting so excited! I hardly even noticed how long it was, well it was still really long but very pretty. Walking through the streets was unreal because I’ve seen so many pictures of Venice so actually seeing it was incredible. The streets are very winding though so I am amazed that Michael and Brandon could navigate so well. The food was great the first night, I had duck and potatoes and it was very delicious. The portions here are very small so I will have to get used to that, but it is a good thing because I can eat a lot. After dinner we went on a gondola ride and it was so perfect! The sun had gone down at this point and it was slightly raining so that set the mood perfectly. I keep saying perfect, but it really was a perfect first day. The second day was when we went to St. Marks Square and it started out not so great because of the rain, but it ended up being the most memorable. After our stressful lunch we were deciding whether to go back to the hotel or brave the rain. Some went back, but I decided to endure through the pouring rain with a few others. We at first tried to keep our feet dry, but by the end we were all running through the square, which was flooded about a foot, and completely soaked. It was nice going through the church and the bell tower while it was raining because no one was there so we had it all to ourselves. Later that night we went bar hopping, and I realize now that most of the men in Venice are kind of creepy… But it was a great night and I had so much fun dancing with Mateo! The glass blowing museum was really cool to see and it is amazing how much skill these artists have. The opera house was so breath taking! I loved sitting in a box it made the experience so much more exciting. The set was really cool because they could portray what was going on very well through basically the same scenery through the whole opera. The singers were amazing and I wish I could sing like that some day. I’ll admit I almost fell asleep at one part, but that is mostly because I am already getting tired because we are doing so much. I love Venice it is amazing!! I definitely will be back here at some point in my life.
Venice is by far one of the most amazing places I think I have ever seen. The city has a dream like quality to itself with its widening alleyways, and its canals that wind themselves throughout the city. It was amazing to start with this city because it gave the trip right off the bat with this feeling of surrealism. However when we around after the city we, of course, arrived at a time when the city was have a big rainstorm hitting it. On the first day there was so much rain that one of the most famous place in Venice, St. Marks Plaza, was flooded! Even though part of myself wished that it was warm and sunny it was a unique way of view this sight of Venice in a way that many people have never seen it. One of my favorite parts about it was when we had to wade through the knee-deep water in the square to be able to see the sights. And Alyssa, who was wearing nice shoes at the time, did not want to wade through the water but wanted to see the sights, so Brandon Derfler being a nice guy carried her through the square on his back. Defiantly has to be one of the funniest parts of the trip. The next day we went out to the glass blowing factory, which was absolutely amazing before we had to get ready for the opera that we were seeing that night. The opera was defiantly the highlight of this day because not only was the place were the opera was being preformed an amazing opera house but the opera itself was wonderful. I have never really been a very huge fan of opera just because the music itself does not entice me, however after seeing this opera and watching people perform operatic songs as a participant within the story I was able to understand and appreciate the style more. I am now able to see that opera adds a type of intensity to the show that sometimes may not be able to be shown just through spoken word. Overall I enjoyed my time in Venice immensely and I think I may need to go back again to spend more time there.
