What can I say?
Venice is everything I had looked forward to and more. It's beautiful scenery
and delicious food made the perfect "welcome to Italy" feeling that I
was hoping for. Even though I know that it's only been a few days, it feels
like I've been here so much longer than that. Having never been to Italy or
even anywhere in Europe before, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I knew that
Venice would be amazing and despite getting drenched in rain multiple times and
being feasted on by mosquitos, it was indeed amazing.
I think that one of
my absolute favorite things about Venice is getting to see all of the
beautiful, colorful and diverse Venetian masks throughout the city in shops,
outdoor kiosks, and elegantly decorated store window displays. From the first
moment that I saw them, on my way to the Hotel Nazionale for the first time, I
knew that I had to have one of my own.
Choosing one to buy
was difficult because there are just so many different styles and colors to
choose from, and I also had to be conscientious about the price and quality of
each mask that I looked at. After looking in several stores, however, I
discovered one that was just too perfect to pass up. It was a “silver swan”
styled, handmade beauty of a mask. One end swooped upward like the wings of a
swan, while black feathers gleamed on the other end. It even had little music
notes in different places on it as well, making it a perfect choice because it
matched the theme of this trip so well. To top it all of, it was only 25 euros,
which in my opinion is a great price for its high quality.
From scenic and
tranquil gondola rides through calm moonlit waters and alleyways to restaurants
with delicious food at reasonable prices to magnificently crafted buildings and
statues, Venice was a pleasure to visit. I am definitely looking forward to the
rest of this “Viaggio Musicale”, but I hope to someday return to this beautiful
place and experience Venice all over again.
