Venezia

Venice:

I was so excited to finally be in Italy. Venice was surreal to ride into and see this actual freaking city on the water. It was so cool to see these old buildings that were 3 to 4 stories tall with water splashing up on them. There were tiny alleyways everywhere where small boats and gondolas could fit through. This city was so large but so small at the same time, all the buildings seemed to connect or be very close. The air was so moist and hydrating. The idea of a city like this that was built from water is ridiculous and incredible. Our first night was probably the best for me, we all went out together to our first Italian dinner, tried gelato for the first time and went on our first gondola ride through the city in the night. It was so new and so exciting! I was in love with the city. I was not super impressed with the food but I loved being able to order wine and have a glass legally with dinner. Seeing La Fenice was definitely a highlight of Venice. I did not expect to see such a grand building with such intricate designs. The ceiling had a huge crystal chandelier and a massive clock with beautiful colors and gold trim everywhere. I was so in love there. I could very easily imagine myself performing there. The rotating stage really created a great picture and helped make the story so real. I was right over the conductor so watching him lead this show was so entertaining, he was in top of his game for sure! The rain was fun but a little frustrating to be wet and cold but we had a good ol' time anyway. Seeing the main plaza fill up and flood was so crazy, and even more it cleared out in like a couple hours. Cities on water are crazy for sure. The people were very sweet and very welcoming to tourists which was very nice. Most people were willing to help us practice our Italian and made it a very comfortable place. Overall Venice was just so cool and I am so grateful to have experienced the city in the rain and shine, but I was happy to move on to the next destination.
