The Wild Adventures of Venice

I feel ridiculous that I can't post pictures along with this post since I'm a dummy and didn't bring my actual computer. Pictures are important. However Venice was absolutely beautiful. The first sight of Venice from the boat was breathtaking as it grew more outstanding along the horizon. I really appreciate how intricate the city really is. My first dinner in Venice was as I expected, pizza. Not terribly original but still, it did its job. After that however came the most exciting event of the evening. Gelato!!! I can't get enough of that stuff. It's too amazing. The following morning after a decent amount of sleep I found myself wildly unprepared for the weather that awaited. It was pouring rain in every sense of the word. It was whipping wind like crazy. Our first stop was the Doge's Palace which was actually very inspiring and beautiful. I really enjoyed that as our first journey. The only thing I would say that I missed out on was the fact that I don't know very much about Venetian history so some of the stories and art was somewhat lost on me as far as historical context goes. I still enjoyed it deeply however and I'm sure that now that I have seen what I have seen that I will learn more and more about the culture and be able to recognize the history behind what I saw. It will happen eventually. That day was my favorite day in Venice because despite the rain we all had such good attitudes towards it. It went so far as to flood practically the entire city which made for some delightful frolicking in the knee high water surrounding St. Mark's Square. I have many pictures of the event but sadly they will not be posted here for I have no posting ability with my pictures. Sad day. It was such an experience. I think I liked that part the most because it was spontaneous and brilliant and we all just decided to have a good time with it. I really loved Murano as well. For some reason I found it to be quite beautiful and just....quaint. That is the best word I can use for it. It was quiet and peaceful and the shops were so tiny and adorable. I really liked being there and getting to experience that. Lastly, the opera. I have had my doubts about opera in general because I generally don't listen to it. (probably because it is in different languages that I don't understand) That being said I did appreciate the experience. I love the theatre and so I figured that seeing an opera would give me more perspective than just listening to opera, which I found to be incredibly true. I was pleased with the experience even if the ending of the opera wasn't quite the sha- BANG I was hoping for. I loved the city of Venice and being able to be immersed in the culture while I was there. It was probably the best experience of the year by far.
